Micah Wirth, Winemaker
Micah Wirth caught the winemaking bug at an early age while growing up and playing among the vineyards in Alexander Valley. Once he was old enough, Micah began working with his father–a third generation winemaker–at Elvenglade and Raptor Ridge in Oregon. The next step was to enroll in oenology classes at UC Davis. When he moved back to his native Healdsburg in 2003, Micah took a harvest intern position at Chalk Hill Winery. A year later, he was hired on full-time at Gary Farrell Winery, where he spent the next 7 years working with highly regarded winemakers Gary Farrell and Susan Reed.
During the same time, Micah began making wine with his friend, Adrian Manspeaker. With some of Russian River Valley’s finest fruit and two French oak barrels, they started the Joseph Jewell brand and developed it from a garage experiment in 2006 to a 2,500-case operation today. They have received many accolades and 90-plus-point scores for their wines from Wine Spectator, Wine & Spirits, and Wine Enthusiast magazines.
