Tech sheet

When compared to our Estate Zinfandel from Nance’s Vineyard, this wine is darker and more intense. Its perfume offers rich aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and plum and with subtle notes of warm spice and cigar box. Full-bodied with firm tannins, the palate delivers luscious dark fruit flavors with great length and texture. This wine will age well. 595 cases produced.

About the Vineyard:

The Grist Vineyard is located on Bradford Mountain, perched atop a ridge west of Dry Creek Valley. Owned by wine industry veteran Bill Hambrecht, this vineyard features rich, red soil composed of volcanic rock, iron, and a touch of clay. Combined with the elevation and its proximity to the coast, these vines produce wine with intensity and depth while retaining high acidity. Cool afternoon breezes from the Pacific Ocean calm the afternoon temperatures on Bradford Mountain, keeping it cooler than the lower Dry Creek Valley (an important component in maintaining acidity in the grapes). Grist Vineyard is planted to multiple grape varieties including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, but the old-vine, head-trained Zinfandel is our favorite.
