Ousterhout Wines make the "Year's Best US Zinfandel" list February 05 2015
We thought making the Top 100 Wines list of 2014 was an honor. And the praise keeps coming! Of the 269 new-release American Zinfandels blind-tasted by the Wine & Spirits Magazine panels in the past year, 28 were picked for this list. Of those 28 wines, both our 2011 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel and our soon-to-be-released 2012 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel were selected for the Year's Best US Zinfandel list in the February 2015 issue.
At 95 points, the 2011 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel remains the second-highest rated Zinfandel on the list and the highest-scoring Zin of Sonoma County. It is described as "beautiful," "silky," and "as bright as a red cherry fresh off the tree." We are nearly sold out of this wine. Order now before it's gone!
The 2012 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel scored 94 points and will be released this Spring. It is the third-highest rated Zinfandel on the Year's Best list and the most affordable wine in the 94-point category.
Review of the 2012 Nance's Vineyard Zinfandel by Luke Sykora for Wine & Spirits Magazine (p. 37, February 2015):
This fresh zin comes from rangy head-trained vines planted in 1999 on a volcanic hillside just above the Alexander Valley bench, where afternoon breezes from the Russian River Valley cool the sun-warmed south-facing slope. Winemaker Micah Wirth's light touch with the fruit emphasizes balance rather than extraction. It's silky and just plain delicious, fine tannins framing a spicy red raspberry and paprika tang that inundates the senses. For those who enjoy zinfandel in an elegant mode, it's a revelation.
Stay tuned for the release date.
